Evil within fragments. The Evil Within. Walkthrough of the game (2). Boss: Multi-Armed Monster Evil Within. Walkthrough

Since this horror game requires you to often return to the original locations, fragments of The Evil Within map will make the passage much easier. Without a complete map, you will be forced to remember the right doors and directions to get to the required location. An additional bonus will be the opportunity to visit hidden areas of the game world, which are marked on the map.

Where to look for map fragments

The first fragment lies behind the chair, which is used to level up the main character's characteristics. It can be picked up before the function with the chair starts working - immediately after the end of the cutscene.

The second part of the map is in a building guarded by one of the undead with a burning torch. To find this place, you need to go to the lawn, behind which there are three houses. This area can be identified by clusters of enemies and large closed gates. The fragment is waiting for you outside the door of the first house in the left corner on the sofa.

After completing the story until the wooden doors open for you, run along the edge of the location to a small wooden hut. It is in it that the third fragment is hidden. You will find it on a chair in the right corner of the room.

The fourth piece of the map can be found in episode 3. He lies in a room with one mirror on the floor. The fifth fragment will lie in the corner of the room from where the monster escaped, and the sixth will be in the place where the main character woke up, finding himself in the hospital.

The seventh part can be picked up when the nurse turns left along the corridor, opening the door with the sink. You can enter this door if you move from the mirror. At the beginning of Chapter 5, in the room with the mirror, turn back and look for another fragment in the corner of the room.

The ninth part of the map lies in the room with the closet, which is located opposite the door with flashing red lights. You will find the fragment under the door. The tenth piece of the map is hidden in the room near which the main character appears after checkpoint 8 and the cut-scene with Julia.

The eleventh piece lies in front of the elevator after the room with the mirror. It is available in the sixth episode after the third checkpoint. The twelfth fragment is located just to the left of the table near the metal cage in the room with bars in front of the cemetery. You can pick it up after the scene cutscene. The thirteenth piece can be picked up at the very beginning of the episode “The Guardian” - it lies at the end of the hall in front of the pulpit next to the green gel.

You will find the next fragment on the path in the forest, near the sunflower under a small stone on the right. Access to it will open in episode 9, “Cruel Intentions.” The sixteenth piece is hidden on the edge of the bathroom in the room, which you will find in the hallway, moving past the metal door and turning right. The first door on the right side of the intersection in the hallway will be this room. The seventeenth fragment awaits you in the room after the maze on the edge of the table.

In Episode 10, before going down the stairs, look into the accessible room on the left. There is another fragment and 500 units of green gel. The nineteenth part will be in the channel of the room with the boxes. You can also find matches there. The next part will appear in the place where the room with the mirror was. The mirror will no longer be there, so you will have to navigate by memory. The twenty-first fragment lies in the bar, which can be reached through a hole in the wall with a neon sign. This part of the map will hang on the wall.

The next part can be picked up at the end of the stairs after the 13th checkpoint of the 11th chapter. The twenty-fourth fragment in the "Ride" chapter can be found in the ambulance on the bench on the right. The last fragment is available in the chapter "The Root of Evil" in the hospital garden. Look at the door on the left, go down there and take the last part of the map.

That's all. Now you know where the fragments of The Evil Within map are located. Have a good game!

Lord of Nightmares

You must complete the game on the third difficulty level - "Nightmare", which will open after the first passage The Evil Within. Starting from this difficulty, sneaking and hiding becomes more difficult, the viewing radius of enemies increases, there are more of them, and sometimes clones of Ruvik appear where they have not been seen before.. After beating the game on this difficulty level, you will receive a new weapon - brass knuckles.

I don't like needles

You must complete the game on the last difficulty level - "AKUMU", which will open after the first passage The Evil Within on difficulty Survival or higher. This difficulty is dangerous because any enemy kills Sebastian with one hit or shot. There are the same number of enemies as in Nightmare.

Achievements that can be obtained as you progress through the story:

Achievements that can be obtained as you progress through the story by fulfilling certain conditions:

Like Corvo (“Are they crazy? I’ll give them a wide berth.” (Episode 2)

If you want to get this achievement, then you must not kill anyone in this episode. When training for stealth killing, simply hit the enemy and then run through the door. After this, Sebastian will find himself in the village, run through all the enemies (or you can sneak along the left side of the location while crouching) to the closed gate. There will be two opponents who will stand up from the ground. Run away from them, thus luring them and move them away from the gate as far as possible, then hide so that they lose sight of you, then calmly follow to the gate and open it. Achievement received. If you did not receive this achievement during the first playthrough of the game, then in the next new game+ you can not drive away the enemies, but simply shoot a blinding bolt in their direction, and then open the gate. Then quickly run into them. There's enough time.

The knife is stronger than the saw (“The motor of his saw is roaring, but a knife is enough for me to deal with him. (Episode 3)”)

To get this achievement you need to kill the Sadist in the village using only a knife. There are several ways you can do this. The main thing is to complete the whole action with a secret murder. Using parts collected from traps and simply from locations in the game, create several Blinding Bolts for the Agony crossbow. After that, blind the Sadist with one of them, pump about 10-12 rounds from a pistol into him, then blind him again, run up and perform a stealth kill. You may not be blinded the first time, but the enemy will move, making it difficult to shoot. It's up to you to decide. And if you want to save ammo and bolts, then it’s better to generally run around the location, hiding and performing several stealth kills. Just don’t try to hide in the same place, otherwise they will find you.

I didn't sign up for this (“The water is rising, but we'll get out without a scratch. (Episode 5)”)

Once you find yourself in a large hall, in the middle of which there is a tank, slowly filling with water, in which Kidman is located, you will have to fight off a large number of enemies. To get the achievement, you must prevent enemies from hitting Joseph while you yourself can take damage.

Happens to everyone (“Who will give a hand to a man who is grasping at straws? (Episode 6)”)

This achievement is unlocked by helping Joseph climb back onto the bridge after he has fallen. You need to do this in the center of the location, where you will find a sniper rifle.

There is no time for this! (“He comes to life again and again! I won’t get into trouble unnecessarily. (Episode 7)”)

To get this achievement, you must kill the Guardian no more than twice.
1. At the first collision. release the clip from the pistol at him. Aim for the stomach.

When it appears the second time, do not pay attention to it, but quickly press the required button. You will have 100% time, after which you quickly run into the vacated opening.

2. After you turn the third pipe valve.

We keep what we have (“There is a strong echo in this cave. I’d better hide the gun and go quietly. (Episode 8)”)

All you need to do is not use a weapon (neither a crossbow nor a firearm).

Purification by fire ("Stop running away! I'll burn her on the spot! (Episode 10)")

The third time you meet Laura, you will have to kill her. To do this, use the traps provided, in the form of knocking down the pipe arms when it is directly under them. Well, when you reach the last room, you will have to finish it off on your own. And if you have a sufficient number of Fire Bolts, you can kill him right away, but I advise you to save your ammunition.

Not a scratch! (“It’s better not to risk it, the bus is about to fall apart! (Episode 12)”)

After you find Joseph's styptic and fight your way back to the bus, you'll be in control of it for a while. So, to get this achievement, you must not run over a single enemy on the road. Quite simple.

Aspiring Electrician (“We need to turn on everything on this panel, just in case. (Episode 14)”)

When you find a panel with three lights and three adapter slots, arrange all three adapters so that all the lights light up. It's very simple!

Achievements related to character leveling:

Everything is as it was

Complete the game without upgrading any of Sebastian's skills, weapons, ammo count, or crossbow bolts. This achievement cannot be earned on New Game+. It is best, of course, to do all this at the minimum difficulty level.

Achievements related to killing enemies and methods of killing them:

Kill 5 enemies with each Agony bolt. Naturally, this does not include all available bolts:
1. Explosive (You can kill one or several opponents at once).
2. Electric (After the enemies are hit by the bolt, kill five of them with a firearm)
3. Cryobolt (Freeze five enemies and then shoot them with a firearm);
4. Blinding (Blind and kill five enemies with a firearm);
5. Harpoon (Cut the heads (optional) of five enemies with this bolt)
6. Fire (Do as in the case of the explosive bolt).
Kills are cumulative even after rebooting. The achievement is best completed on New Game+ at the end of the second episode.

Noiseless murderer

An easy achievement that can be completed early in the game. To do this, you need to secretly kill 5 enemies, while remaining unnoticed.

Burn, witch, burn!

You must burn one enemy with a torch, the torch remains after killing any of the enemies who had it, after which the matter remains small.

My own army

Kill 400 enemies. I received it at the beginning of a new game+. But I died many times. I don’t know whether the deaths of enemies add up regardless of whether we killed them throughout the game or during unsuccessful passages of episodes. Most likely the first option.

Developer: Tango Gameworks. Publisher: Bethesda Softworks.

Time to complete 100% completion of the game is 80 hours.

The Evil Within is one of the brightest representatives of the survival horror genre. Throughout the game you will have a limited amount of ammunition and numerous armies of enemies. In addition, you will be constantly looking for a safe place. A few tips below will help you survive this hellish nightmare.

1. Save. Throughout the entire passage, we will indicate to you the achievement of each checkpoint and mirror, with which you can save your progress. Never neglect the mirror room unless you want to end up going back a few steps. By the way, if you overcome a difficult section and know that there is a mirror a few meters behind you, be sure to go back and save again. If the mirror room is somewhere near you, then you will hear a piece of melody that gives a clue.

2. Upgrade Sebastian by collecting green gel. As the game progresses, you will find bottles of green gel, for which you can purchase upgrades in a special room with a surgical chair. Green gel can remain after killing enemies and breaking objects. When the opportunity presents itself, take advantage of it immediately. We recommend that you first purchase sprint (two levels) and increase critical shots from a pistol to 20%.

3. Get treatment. When you stand still, the main character's health is restored to approximately 30%. You cannot increase regeneration, but you can increase your health. Again, you need to upgrade the main character, or use medical kits that can be found during the game.

4. Recharge. When the fight ends, be sure to reload all your weapons.

5. Use melee weapons. As the game progresses, you will find axes and torches. Take them to instantly deal with enemies.

6. Search and break goddess figurines. Collecting figurines allows you to find the keys. These keys, in turn, can be used to open lockers inside the hospital. In the article you can find out the location of ALL keys.

7. Collect matches. Matches are one of the most useful resources in The Evil Within. With one match you can instantly kill any enemy, regardless of what level of health he has left. In this case, the enemy must be knocked down.

What can be unlocked

There are several collectibles in the game. For example, you can collect 28 map fragments and get a reward for it. Many people are interested in what this reward is. So, after completing the game, if all the fragments of the map have been collected, you can approach it and activate it. As a reward you will receive a powerful sniper rifle and a semi-automatic pistol.

For completing the game at the maximum level, the main character Sebastian receives brass knuckles, which significantly enhances his melee attacks.

Total number of collectibles and trophies:

Map fragments – 28 pieces;

Missing people posters- 15 pieces;

Audio diaries – 10 pieces;

Episode 1. Emergency call

Note: 2.

Something happened at the Mayak city psychiatric hospital; all the police cars, including ours, arrived there. A group of three detectives enters the building. There are many corpses inside. We follow Joseph into the far left room. The surviving doctor cannot explain anything, but calls the name Ruvik. We watch the CCTV cameras, before our eyes a stranger in a raincoat instantly kills several policemen, and then turns up behind us and stabs us.

We come to consciousness. We are suspended upside down on a rope, with a maniac walking nearby. When the monster moves further away, we begin to swing (space), pull out knife from a nearby suspended body, and cut our ropes.

1.1. Maniac
The Evil Within. Walkthrough

It will not be possible to kill an enemy with a knife, so for now we act unnoticed, switch to stealth mode (Ctrl). Ahead, a maniac is chopping meat on a cutting table; a little to the left of him, keys hang on a hook. We wait for the maniac to move on, sneak up and take him off the hook a bunch of keys. We move back to the previous room, open the locked door on the left with the keys.

We walk along the corridor, overlooking the previous room. At the next door we will come to an inconspicuous tripwire. The alarm will go off and the butcher will run after us. We run through two more corridors, but a maniac with a chainsaw will catch up with us and hit us in the leg, cutting the tendon. Then we run limping. The enemy bans us in the room with saws, we get out of it by going down the hatch.

We slide along the inclined pipe, dodging obstacles on the way. At the end we will fall into a large vat of blood, we get out of it. You find yourself in the sewer.

1.2. Sewerage

We go to the right, jump into the water, go up the stairs. There is nothing in the side doors on the right, we go straight all the time, climb back into the building.

1.3. Shelter
Evil Vizin. Walkthrough

We go out into the room with lockers, then into the next room. From behind, through the glass, we see a butcher appear. The door ahead is closed, so for now we hide in the closet to the right of it (Ctrl). We wait in the closet until the enemy breaks through the door forward. After some time we leave and sneak behind.

1.4. Distracting the Enemy

The butcher is in a large illuminated room, there is a dark corridor on the side, but you can’t go anywhere along it. Here you need to deceive the enemy.

1. When he goes forward, we sneak into the room, go to the dark left corner, and find a bottle behind the boxes.

2. From this place we throw the bottle into the previous corridor from where we entered.

3. The enemy will run towards the sound of breaking glass. At this moment we must run forward - to the kitchen. We don’t linger anywhere else, we run around the table, enter the door on the right, in the corridor we enter the door on the left.

1.5. Evacuation
Walkthrough of The Evil Within 2015

We walk through the room with wheelchairs. The Butcher will burst into the room and chase us. We run to the end, jump into the opened elevator car.

We find ourselves on the main floor and return to the hospital lobby. Seismic tremors will begin. We quickly run to the double doors and get out into the street. We get into the departing ambulance. The driver, girl, doctor and one patient escaped. The driver will take us out of a dangerous place, and at this time an earthquake will destroy the entire city. At the end the car will fall off the cliff.

We ended up in a single room in the hospital. The nurse will let us out into the corridor. We go to the reception desk and sign the documents to make a save. We go into the opened corridor.

We sit on a chair, we are chained to it. Here we can spend the collected green gel to purchase improvements for the main character Sebastian. At first, we only buy access to future improvements for 100 gel. After this, the dream about the hospital will end.

2.1. Crash site

We regain consciousness and get out of the crashed ambulance. Nearby on the couch we find 200 gel, in the medical cabinet 1 syringe. We look at the collected items in the inventory (V key), use the syringe to restore health. You can only increase your health up to the red mark. There are another 300 gels hidden to the right of the machine.

We go forward along the path with bloody footprints. Ahead is the corpse of a cow and a crow on it. There is a wooden box on the right, we break it with a melee strike (F key), inside there is 300 gel. From this place you can see the light ahead, we run there and pick up a lantern on the cliff. From below we see a tent and a man, we go down to them.

2.2. Gun
The Evil Within. Walkthrough of the game on PC

We approach the tent and see how the person inside eats a corpse. In the things at the entrance we find revolver. The man looks around, it's our infected driver Connelly. First, we push away the running monster, and then aim 3 shots at the head.

2.3. Gaming Features

We examine the tent, to the right of the boxes there is 200 gel, there is nothing in the boxes themselves. To the left of the tent we enter the cave, turn on the flashlight (Q key). Inside there is a dead end on the left, there is 200 gel in it. On the right we will see Leslie, a patient rescued from a mental hospital. There is a tripwire in front of him, we need to disarm this trap, we get trap details.

Through the cave we go out onto the field. You can climb over the fence on the left, but there is nothing there. On the road on the right there is a cart containing 300 gel and an empty box. Further to the right lies a body and 2 matches near. We use the first match to burn the body (key C). This way you can get rid of enemies who constantly resurrect after death.

At the turn we see a small barn with a bloody symbol of the Mayak hospital on the door. We go inside, we see the ghost of a nurse enter the mirror and disappear.

Hospital

We approach the mirror, hold down the space bar, and find ourselves in the hospital. With the help of mirrors, we can quickly return to a kind of base, where we can save, buy upgrades, and unlock lockers. You can improve your characteristics, your weapons and maximum reserve. First of all, it is better to spend money on increasing the supply of wearable items: matches, cartridges.

To leave the hospital, we stand in the corridor between the hall and the improvement room, look in the washbasin mirror, and press the spacebar.

We leave the barn and follow the path down. From a distance we see Leslie running away from the maniac and running inside the next house. A maniac knocks on locked doors. We sneak up from behind and make a stealth kill (Ctrl + spacebar). If we burn this enemy, we will get for him 1 syringe. We knock down the doors and climb through the window. Leslie runs further and further, we follow him to the gate.

2.4. Two enemies
Walkthrough of the game "The Evil Within"

Right before our eyes, two local residents, under the influence of radiation from the lighthouse, turn into monsters. We stand behind the hay bales, waiting for the monsters to disperse to different corners. We can throw the bottle ahead on the road. We silently kill the first enemy from behind. The second enemy will walk back and forth to the right of the house. We hide behind the side fence on the left, when the enemy goes behind the house, we follow and silently kill.

In the house itself on the chest of drawers lies 5 matches, on the bed - 1 syringe. In front of the house between the fences we clear the trap, we get trap details. On the left side of the road we can go to the edge of the pier, from there we will see the Mayak hospital on the opposite side of the lake.

2.5. Village

Next are several dilapidated houses and enemies walking around fires with torches. There is 1 enemy at the fork near the nearest house, we can get up from behind and kill him unnoticed. In the house at the fork there is 3 matches, 1 bullet and a random bonus in boxes.

On the right there is a dead end with a stone house, in front of it is 1 enemy. We enter the house, break the boxes, each of them contains a little gel. In the corridor stretching, in the back room there are 200 gels and 5 rounds.

We return to the main path. Around the 2nd house on the left path there are 5 traps, they can be neutralized in the same way as stretch marks. There are 2 enemies walking nearby. Inside the house in a large room stretching, there is 300 gel inside the cabinet, in the small side room there is 1 syringe.

On the left path in the far building and on the road there are 2 more enemies. In and behind the building 2 stretchers, there is 700 gel inside the room.

At the end of the left path is a locked gate with a valve. First, we burn 2 corpses on the road. We begin to turn the valve, the gate will begin to gradually rise. During this, two corpses will come to life, if we did not burn them before. We pass through the gate.

2.6. Bridge
The Evil Within. All the secrets

Ahead on the road we will see a large fire, monsters sit around it and eat corpses. It will not be possible to kill them silently here; they will immediately notice us. We run past them on the right and run onto the stone bridge. The gate ahead will be closed, you will have to jump from the bridge into the water.

We come ashore under the bridge. Lies on the table 1 syringe. If we return to the pier with the boat, we will find 200 gel there. We go up the stairs and take 3 matches, we burn corpses on the way.

3.1. Entrance to the village
Evil Within Walkthrough

We go to the village, all the passages under the balcony will be closed with thorns. You can only enter the next two buildings. In the left building we find some gel, 2 stretchers And axe, sticking out of the wall, which can be used as a weapon.

In the right building on the side there is a hut in it 1 syringe and 300 gel. There are several mines installed in the house itself; they react to noise. You can silently crawl up to them and neutralize them: you need to stop the arrow in the blue zone, and if you stop it in the red zone, the grenade will explode. We find it by the fireplace 2 matches, in the nightstand there are 500 gels. In the right house we enter the bathroom with a bloody sign, there is a mirror to move around.

Hospital

This time the nurse will take us to the back room behind the counter. On the right is the detective's office, here on the wall a map is assembled from the found fragments. On the left is a storage room with many cells, they can be opened with the keys found, and there are random bonuses inside.

We return through the mirror. From both side buildings on the second floor you can get to the central balcony. There we will meet the surviving doctor Marcelo Jimenez. Together with him we examine the second half of the village, there are many enemies there. He offers to distract everyone with himself, and at this time we should open the gate ahead. On the balcony we turn the valve to open the way to the second half.

3.2. Second half of the village

The doctor has distracted most of the enemies, we can move forward. In the center there is a cart, under its wheel there is 300 gel.

To the left of the gate on the balcony there is an enemy with a gun, we shoot at him from afar. We go up to this balcony, enter the building, on the chair on the right we find a new weapon - Crossbow "Agony" and harpoons for it. In the inventory, we can use trap parts to create explosive bolts for a crossbow.

We kill a couple more enemies who run up. There are two levers in this building that turn on a trap with arrows, we can use them. On the ground floor in a dark room in a case there is another weapon - shotgun.

The neighboring building on the left is a three-story barn; for now we don’t go into it but go around it. In the passage between the buildings there is tripwires and mines, and behind the building in the corner there is a chest. There is a trap hidden in the chest, so we open it slowly and not all the way, and then clear it. Inside 4 buckshot cartridges And 2 trap parts.

On the 1st floor of the barn there is a pen for pigs, behind the wall there is a maniac bound in chains. On the 2nd floor there are two internal balconies, here in boxes and on tables you can find 1 syringe, 3 cartridges. Installed near the stairs to the attic mine, we can detonate it from afar or neutralize it.

There is a water tower to the right of the entrance. On the side of it there is a barn, inside 1 syringe. If you climb the tower itself, at the top we will find 1000 gel, 2 parts traps, flash bolt.

Stone house on the right. On the ground floor there is 1 enemy walking by the fireplace, it is easy to eliminate him silently, we take 300 gel from the table. On the 2nd floor there is 1 enemy in the room and 1 on the balcony. Here we take it from the chest of drawers 1 syringe, from the nightstand 2 buckshot cartridges, we take it from the enemy from the balcony grenade. We enter the far room, take first aid kit(increases maximum health), listen. We will see the doctor who hid in the attic.

3.3. Boss: Sadist

Having examined all the buildings in the village, we finally approach the gate. To the left of them we examine the chain that blocks the opening of the doors. We need to find something to cut it. After this, we return to the barn, come close to the chained maniac, he will break free and attack us with a chainsaw.

You can hide from a maniac in a safe place. We go into the passage between the two left buildings, climb onto a small roof, the maniac will not get through here. Standing on the roof, we shoot the maniac in the head with a shotgun or a crossbow with explosive arrows.

When the Sadist boss is defeated, all other enemies in the village will disappear along with him, and Rufik in a white cloak will appear for a moment. We take it from the killed boss chainsaw and 5000 gel. We return to the place where the maniac was chained, there lies in the chest 6 rounds And 2 buckshot cartridges. We go out through the open gate, the doctor will catch up with us.

The second chapter of The Evil Within is essentially the first chapter in which you have normal weapons and the ability to explore the location to find supplies and game items. There are a total of 11 items in the second chapter, it is very important to find them right away, since in the future you will not be able to return for them.

It is most convenient to play Evil Within on a PlayStation 3/4 or Xbox console; you can purchase any game consoles, as well as accessories and games for them, on the Notus online store website, at http://www.notus.com.ua/Igrovye-pristavki-i-igry-Xbox-360.

The first 3 items are quite easy to find; they are located in the hospital in which Sebastian woke up at the beginning of the second chapter. After leaving the room, go to the hall behind the nurse, find an advertisement and a newspaper clipping in the hall. In the hall, behind the chair for leveling up skills, there is the first fragment of the map; it is very important not to miss it.

After passing the cave, you will see a small illuminated booth; Sebastian’s first diary will be in it. In the same booth there is a mirror, after looking into which Sebastian will again find himself in the hospital, where you again need to take the newspaper and read the advertisement.

The first figurine of the goddess, with the key to the lockers, is located at the gate to the village. If you don't know what it is, you can easily miss it. In order to take the key, hit the figurine with your fist, it will break and the key will appear.

As soon as you pass the gate, there will be a dilapidated house on the right, a fire is burning near it and there is a note next to the fire.

Further along the road there will be several houses that are patrolled by many zombies, after passing them you will get to the gate that leads to the next location. To the right of the road there will be a path leading to one separate house, you don’t have to go there to complete the game and you may not notice the path, but in that house there is a second key and a second fragment of the map.

Before going through the big gate, be sure to find this path and explore this house, because once you pass the gate it will slam shut and you will not be able to return.

The last item in the second chapter of The Evil Within, map fragment 3, is located in a booth on a field where there are many zombies. Stealthily make your way to the booth through the bushes so that they do not notice you, because after they see you, you will need to constantly run away from them and you will not be able to pick up anything.

So give them blood

Gallons of the stuff

Give them all that they can drink

And it will never be enough

So give them blood

To be a flood

My Chemical Romance – Blood

Without a long introduction, I’ll say right away: The Evil Within is a very cruel game. Perhaps so cruel that even one “very” will not be enough here. And we are not talking about rivers of blood, which players will undoubtedly see here (in our age of dismemberment on screens, this will no longer surprise anyone), but about suffering and torment. Yes, dear reader, when playing this game you will have to go through no less circles of hell than the protagonist suffering on the other side of the screen. You will suffer!

ResidentEvil

However, before we get to know the creation itself, let’s get acquainted with the man who blinded it. I think for those who have already purchased the game and played it, this will be unnecessary, because they know who he is Shinji Mikami not young, but not yet gray-haired, Japanese, who is called the father of the series Resident Evil.

Besides, perhaps I'm not afraid of this title, the most famous game series in the genre "survival horror", this person had a hand in the company's less successful projects CAPCOM (Dino Crisis, Onimusha: Warlords), was directly involved in the creation of the cult series Devil May Cry, and even personally released several very interesting, but at the same time strange games ( Killer 7, God Hand, Shadows of the Damned). His last game before this one (console action Vanquish) generally made a small revolution among games of this genre, thanks to its interesting innovations in the gameplay. But one of his games stands out, which even today is not a shame to play. It was with him that the players compared the game discussed in this review, although concerns arose even then. Well, what could foretell trouble?

And on October 14, 2014, “The Evil Within” became available for retail sale on the shelves of the Internet, and not only stores. Mikami himself has repeatedly spoken about how he sees the “horror” genre in our time and, obviously, tried to implement it in this game, reducing the shooter component of the new parts of Resident of Evil, which is so unnerving for many. “So, how does it feel to play a new game from such a master?” you ask. Yes, how can I say...I believe the contradictory assessments of Western critics speak for themselves. The game turned out to be very controversial.

I have to agree with this assessment, and the rationale will follow below. The game certainly has its advantages, but for each of these advantages there is a disadvantage. And you simply cannot turn a blind eye to this.

Outlast

If dear reader watched the recently released mystical thriller"Deliver us from evil"(the English names, by the way, have something similar to each other, don’t you agree with me?), then he will roughly imagine the beginning of the game: a gloomy/gray city, rain, a police car, a stern main character (of course this is an investigator not everyone same time to play as a government agent or a demon hunter) and its formulaic...and wait, here for the first time the game departs from the template, because a cheerful partner or an African-American partner, or even a cheerful African-American partner, was not brought in this time. Moreover, there are even two of them. But first things first.

Under our direct control comes a police investigator, who has already had a fair sniff of gunpowder in his service, named Sebastian Castelanos, who received an urgent call about the unrest going on in the city psychiatric hospital "Mayak": loss of contact with the operatives who went inside, half a dozen cars empty, an alleged mountain of corpses and , perhaps the participation of a ghost doctor in this incident, who took with him to the next world a number of patients. Our protégé does not work alone, but with his team: bespectacled American-Japanese Joseph Oda, who, in my humble opinion, looks like a latent maniac, and junior detective (read as an intern for these two) Julia “Kid” Kidman, who, for some reason, is his partner , are called by their last name (the American archetype is evident when at least one hero from the company is called by their last name: Cartman from the series "South Park", Quagmire from "Family Guy" Boomhauer from "King of the Hill", not to mention a bunch of cop movies). Arriving at the cordoned off scene, not seeing a single policeman around, but a bunch of empty cars, our three heroes, not even bothering to wait for the reinforcements that were called and at the same time knowing full well that there could be a dangerous criminal inside, bravely go inside.

Shocking content: inside the building, investigators find a lot of torn bodies of orderlies and patients, blood-stained walls, floors, ceilings and interior items. They still had no desire to wait for reinforcements. Having found a barely alive doctor talking some kind of nonsense, Sebastian rushes to the surveillance cameras and realizes that even the united army of several major powers could not cope with this criminal. Having scattered, in the best traditions of modern mystical horror films, patrolling police officers, the killer, glaring sharply at the camera lens, immediately finds himself behind the hero’s back and knocks him out.

And then the movie begins "Collector 2", and this is almost not a joke: Sebastian comes to his senses suspended upside down, and not far from him a very creepy big guy (in the game documents he is called only “Sadist”) is cutting up another corpse. The purpose of this activity is unknown. Realizing that he still wants to live, Sebastian (not without your help) frees himself from captivity, grabs a knife, sneaks up behind the big man and... this is where the game hit me in the balls for the first time. Not weakly so - four Game Overs in a row. And the most interesting thing is that no one bothered to explain to me, in our age of casualism and tutorials on tablets, that it is impossible to kill a big guy, and even if Sebastian makes a hole in his head with a knife in a short video, flooding your monitor with his blood, this does not mean that you won. This only means that the big guy, about a second later, will pounce on you and chop off your head in the same short video. And this will be fatal for you.

And then, realizing that the button to kill the creepy man was in vain, I steal his keys and quietly take Sebastian into the creepy corridors of the hospital. And this, dear reader, is one of the most remarkable episodes of the game: a chase immediately begins in the best traditions of the film "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", the corridors turn into another playground for John Kramer and his students, Sebastian is wounded in the leg, and he begins, limping very realistically and also climbing the stairs, trying to survive, playing hide and seek with a maniac and swimming in sewer waste mixed with human blood and guts. At that moment my happiness knew no bounds. I arrogantly ridiculed the note I found that the exit was very close, remembering similar games about the hospital, but I was cruelly mistaken: the exit Sebastian found turns out to be not a duck, and he leaves this abode of blood and entrails. But for what?

Then the plot begins to fly at the speed of the Sapsan electric train, without even thinking about slowing down for the sake of its players, episode by episode quoting various games of the “Survival Horror” genre: the surviving heroes are leaving for nowhere, and around them is a collapsing city (just like that level hated by many gamers V Alone in the Dark: Near Death Investigation), but here they are already in a village lost in the middle of the forests, inhabited by inhabitants possessed by some kind of evil spirits (just like the first act in Resident Evil 4, and in some places Mikami blatantly copies quotes from himself), but now we are sneaking around a house full of traps and neutralizing them, just so as not to explode ourselves ( Saw: The Game) and, as a result, we find ourselves in a safe zone, but traveling to places very distant from the original destination ( Silent Hill: The Room).

In a word, the story, which began, albeit somewhat banal (who would seriously find fault with cliches, except for the sake of laughter?), but quite cool, already on the next three levels loses its integral thread, turning rather into a certain set of episodes, practically interconnected , not related in any way. And this is how most of the game lasts (from 3 to 12 of the 15 game episodes). Then, the storyline again firmly grabs the player by the scruff of the neck, delighting with beautifully staged scenes and the presence of at least some meaning in what is happening until the final credits. But, dear reader, your humble servant believes that 6 episodes that are truly interesting to play, versus 9 meaningless levels this is somehow unfair to you, to me and to other gamers who expect from the game not only good gameplay, but also history. Playing this middle of the game is simply boring! The “unexpected” plot twist, which occurs precisely in this interval, does not save the situation in any way, in my opinion.

Well, okay, the plot didn’t work out, but what about the characters? After all, when assessing the colorful personalities from RE 4, one could be absolutely calm about the new set of characters. Well, or at least for those people who are involved in the main roles. But I saw hackwork here too: the main character does not evoke any emotions. None! He simply walks forward with fatigue in his eyes, destroying the evil spirits around him, as if he does it every day. Not once during the entire game will you hear an exclamation from him, not just of regret, but also of just surprise (I can’t help but remember “What’s wrong with these people?” Leon from RE 4): most often he will exclaim something like “Shit”, Well, and a little less often, a stronger “F*ck”. He even saves people as a kind of burden, and in his conversations with them nothing can be heard except in the spirit: “Yes, yes, you annoyed me with your whining, but the script obliges me to go with you for the nth number of chapters, so shut up and live." We will learn about the past of the main character, which is undoubtedly tragic, by regularly finding his diaries. What it has to do with the game itself (as opposed to at least the sample) is unclear. Apart from one short reference in one tiny dialogue, he will not be remembered again in the main storyline.

But if we can still say something about Sebastian, as the main character of the game, whose character is, accordingly, better written, then it is very difficult to say the same about all the people he meets (including his partners): they are simply extras playing their roles. Be it the role of the right shoulder for the player, or the victim that he has to save, or just cannon fodder that will be torn apart in a couple of videos. About the antagonist himself, as well as his motivation, after finishing the game you will say for yourself: “I’ve already seen this somewhere... and more than once.” True, it is worth paying tribute to the actor voicing him: Jackie Earle Haley, known primarily as Rorschach from the movie "Keepers" and new Freddy Krueger from "A Nightmare on Elm Street", was able to breathe some kind of life into his hero. Listening to him was a special pleasure.

TheLastofUs

Things are much more pleasant with the gameplay, although even here there are some serious complaints. But more on that later.

Looking at the numerous story trailers (in which the developers shamelessly revealed most of the most interesting moments of the game), players could already conclude in advance that we were in for a kind of reboot of Resident Evil 4, but in much darker tones. In principle, this is how it turned out, but there are serious differences.

The first major difference will sound like a slap in the face to haters of the new Resident Evil series (those who scream hysterically that the once prestigious survival horror has become an ordinary shooter): The Evil Within is a real Survival Horror, even on the easy (normal) difficulty level. The authors tried to do everything possible so that the player would not be able to finish the game for as long as possible and, heart-rendingly swearing and gritting his teeth, would overcome the difficulties here (not fears, as it was written in the game’s annotation, please note). In other words, “survived.”

Unlike Indian horror films (already mentioned Outlast or there Amnesia) Sebastian does not have a weapon only at the first level, and he can fight back with his fist. The problem is that weapons here are not a panacea for all misfortunes, but only a sometimes necessary tool for the same survival: they always give out little ammunition, it’s also impossible to carry a lot of supplies with you, enemies die not with one headshot (headshot) but from two or three, and if you shoot at the body like that, you risk emptying the entire clip, and you won’t be able to kill one annoying enemy (that’s just one, and they almost constantly attack you in small, rarely numerous, groups). Therefore, you have to improvise, playing hide and seek with your enemies, waiting for the moment when they turn their back to you. And then the “Sneak Murder” method, which did not work in the first chapter, will perfectly justify itself and will continue to justify itself throughout most of the game. Knife, unlike The Last of Us, which had generally similar game mechanics, does not break after use, and therefore this method of killing the enemy is often the most effective. However, killing an enemy with a knife to the crown is far from the only way, besides bullets. Numerous games of this genre have long taught us that various evil spirits are afraid, at a minimum, of light and fire. In this case, just fire.

Traveling through various ruins, Detective Castellanos will find far from complete matchboxes (they, like all items in the game, are given out in criminally small quantities, although they are found quite often), which very soon will become your best friends, after cartridges: the thing is, that, according to the authors’ idea, all enemies (in their role, by the way, are infected people, who are simply called “Obsessed”) are flammable and contact with a burning match ends in them turning into ashes in a couple of seconds. However, throwing matches like Dude from Postal 2, Sebastian can’t, so the enemies have to be knocked down first or at least brought to their knees. And now we have a new murder algorithm emerging:

  1. See the enemy
  2. Aim and shoot him in the kneecap
  3. While he is lying (sitting), quickly run up and throw a match on him using a specially assigned button
  4. Enjoy the combustion process
  5. PROFIT

As you progress through the game, problems arise with proven methods of destruction: enemies appear that are not affected by stealth killing; shooters begin to wear bulletproof masks and body armor, and some Taken become so thick-skinned that they do not want to fall from a shot in the knee. We have to look for other methods of fighting. Alternatively, you can, while running away from enemies, lure them into traps they themselves have set here and there: traps, tripwires that respond to the sound of a bomb, and simply ceilings with spikes or stakes controlled by levers. Enemies also die from blows from improvised objects (disposable this time): a torch and an axe. There is also a bottle, but it is better to use it either as a way to stun the enemy (in order to then work with him with a knife) or as a distraction (the good old stealth action method). You should also not forget that your enemy is cunning and insidious and can easily pretend to be dead and at the moment when you turn your back to him, passing by, he will quickly get up to hit you harder from behind. Therefore, for prevention, all corpses encountered along the way are recommended to be burned with the same matches.

In general, the combat system turned out to be both quite simple to learn, but also fraught with a couple of surprises that make your walks through these locations far from simple. However, it also contains the first serious complaint - this is not enough for the level of modern games. What prevented the authors from introducing into the game the ability to set objects on fire and use them as weapons against enemies? Eden Games provided a similar opportunity 6 years ago. But here you don’t even have to set enemies on fire in order to kill them (which, by the way, the game doesn’t warn you about, shamelessly offering to burn any farm animals you meet along the way). With regard to weapons, everything is also not completely clear to hell with those that break easily: the question is the paucity of choice and its limitations. According to the statistics of my playthrough, I could pick up the ax from only one of the three enemies with axes after their death. Sebastian will not fight much with his fists: to kill one enemy at the beginning of the game it takes about 10 blows, and this is while two blows from one Possessed can send Sebastian to the next world. And this despite the fact that with one blow of his fist, Sebastian is capable of not only breaking numerous wooden boxes, but even breaking the locks on the doors.

From the scarcity of melee weapons we move on to the arsenal of firearms. Well, this is just a classic, because in addition to the submachine gun, you will find the classic Resident set: pistol, shotgun, rifle, magnum and crossbow. I would like to dwell in more detail on the last tool, which will undoubtedly make your life much easier.

In total, the crossbow has five types of charges:

  1. Classic arrows (Harpoon)
  2. Exploding Arrows ("Explosive Bolt")
  3. Freezing Arrows (Cryobolt)
  4. Paralyzing Arrows (Electro Bolt)
  5. Blinding Arrows (Flash Bolt)

As you can see, each of them has its own purpose and each of them will help you deal with the enemy: for example, only with a frozen or paralyzed enemy can you, without fear of a mistake, throw a grenade at his feet, and a blinded enemy is so easy to kill from behind that you can simply you can't be happier. The main difference between bolts and other cartridges is that you can craft them yourself in the game menu. To do this, you will need parts, which, in addition to finding them at the levels, can be obtained by dismantling numerous traps, of which there will be especially many at the beginning of the game. The process of neutralizing various traps is ensured by playing two simple mini-games. True, if they fail, the trap will immediately detonate, and this for you, again at the beginning of the game, is tantamount to death.

Dear reader, you have probably already noticed that I constantly say “at the beginning of the game,” so let me clarify something on this point. The fact is that at the beginning of the game, our hero, as in many role-playing games, is simply weak and frail: two hits are enough for him to die, he can sprint for no more than three seconds (after which he begins to experience severe shortness of breath, and some of the local enemies can kill you with one hit), his hands are constantly shaking because of which the aim jumps, and much more (first aid kits restore only 20% of the total health, he cannot make more than two arrows and he cannot carry more than 5 matches) . Therefore, in order for Detective Castellanos to grow up as a strong and powerful hunter of the Possessed, the authors introduced the “Chamber” department of a psychiatric hospital, where our hero will always get through the rooms with mirrors encountered at the levels (such rooms can be identified by the signs painted on the door). There he will always be met by the cold nurse Tatyana, talking to the detective as if she knows something terrible about his past. So, the main purpose of the “Chamber” is to improve detective skills. This occurs through the latter’s use of a device that looks like an electric chair modernized by a sadomasochist (the principle of operation, by the way, is similar). Having seated Sebastian in this electric chair, you are free to choose which indicators to pump him up: there are many of them, and they are all important. Would you rather sprint longer from crowds of enemies, carry more ammo or medicine (all purchased separately), or increase the firepower and/or critical hit percentage of one of your firearms. It's up to you to choose.

The currency here will be a certain green substance that Sebastian calls “Slurry”. It periodically drops out from enemies (the amount depends on the degree of danger of the enemy itself), and is also scattered in banks throughout the levels. By the way, these same levels are full of hiding places and other dark places in which the player can find not only cartridges, parts and bottles of liquid, but various documents, newspapers, audio recordings, leaflets of the missing (to understand the plot of the game), keys (about them the purpose will be described later) and fragments of the map (by collecting all the fragments, Sebastian will receive a couple of very cool analogs to his old weapon, so it makes sense to think about it). The keys should also be taken to the “Chamber” because in it, starting from the fourth chapter, the nurses’ room becomes available, in which Sebastian can find 54 locked cabinets, behind the door of each of which some prize awaits you: be a cartridge/shell for your weapon or some other object, or even a bottle with a huge amount of liquid inside.

The physics of the game turned out to be peculiar: you can set enemies on fire by shooting at torches and checkers in their hands, but at the same time the hero himself, being next to them, will not burn, which does not at all prevent him from burning from the same ignited oil puddles or suffering from an explosion an enemy stick of dynamite exploded nearby. This is not to mention the castles broken by the fist of the hero, who, unfortunately, cannot break through enemy skulls with the same ease. I don’t want to find fault, but if nine years ago no one paid attention to this, today, in the era Crisis and similar high-tech games, a game that is equally released on new generation platforms, not to mention a personal computer, this is clearly not a plus. Although it doesn't really bother me.

Finally, perhaps, it is worth discussing the difficulty of the game. Initially, there are two difficulty levels to choose from: “Normal” (for “weak people,” as they try to assure you) and “Survival” (like a hard type, but as practice shows, it’s more likely to be medium). After completing the game at any of the above levels, a new “Nightmare” becomes available, and after that “Akuma” (death from every scratch).

However, despite the fact that at the very first of the listed difficulty levels it is incomparably easier to play than at the others, the game still turned out to be quite complex and guaranteed to cause you suffering. And the point here is not only the small number of cartridges and the very decent behavior of the enemies (on normal this is not a problem, although even on it, monsters are able to move away from the line of fire, unexpectedly rush at you with their bare hands, pin you in a corner in a crowd and shoot accurately ), and in a number of very strange decisions. It’s especially strange to see them in a new game by a person who himself popularized QTE (Quick Time Events) in its legendary game (before that, in addition to interactive cartoons of the 80s, this could only be seen from video games in Shenmue). Those who played have probably already guessed that we will be talking about traps and other deadly situations (for example, capturing enemies).

To be honest, I understand that some will not even consider this a serious complaint, but damn, I want to ask two questions: “Why?” and for what?". Why is it that somewhere at the beginning of the game, Sebastian runs the risk of dying more often by running into some trap hidden in the ground or suspended on the roof of some house, and why was it necessary to make it so that it is almost never possible to free himself from any enemy capture (having fallen into the boss’s grip, can you get ready to replay the game from the nearest checkpoint)? Seriously, I understand if such a mode was provided for players who want to play on hard (that’s why it’s hard), but why casual players? Not to mention that it’s just unpleasant - having collected all the swag from all the houses and being satisfied with your loot, you strive for the point from which you will continue moving through the plot and fall into some kind of trap that turns Sebastian into mincemeat in the blink of an eye. And that’s it - now you’ll have to run around and collect everything, as well as disarm traps and kill enemies! And if you consider that the game distributes things in the boxes the way it wants, then because of the lost good finds you just want to howl with resentment!

Therefore, fellow gamers, if you are used to the fact that death in video games can always be avoided by pressing a couple of buttons, then forget it - here, falling into a trap almost always ends in death for Sebastian. Therefore, at the beginning of the game you have to be careful, always move on your haunches and keep your eyes open. And remember one of the ironclad rules of action games: “If you’re stuck somewhere and don’t know where to go, look up!”

Bottom line

Since this is my first controversial review of a video game (which turned out to be really quite controversial and is a weak example of how to make survival horror), here I would like to summarize my observations on this game. As I already said, for every plus of the game there is a minus:

  • The storyline, which started well at the beginning of the game, stumbles in the middle of the track and slowly crawls, so that later, when the race is over and the audience’s attention to it has disappeared, it accelerates again and, without reaching the end, falls just before the finish line;
  • The surrealism of what is happening is executed simply perfectly, but quickly begins to tire with its monotony (all because of the same sagging middle);
  • You won’t see any new monsters or situations in general: all this has happened before (the final battle is just another quote, but from another legendary horror series in the world of video games);
  • The gameplay has found the golden mean of what a project with the heading “Survival” in the genre line should be today. What spoils everything is not the most modern physics of the game + the deliberate desire of the game authors to complicate the process with sudden death traps. As a result, the game is often played through trial and error. In addition, at the end of the game, the gameplay again slides into a clumsy shooter component, while ignoring the basic rules for a modern shooter: cover behind a wall, at least;
  • There weren’t very many heroes (which is good for a horror film), but they turned out terrible (not the characters themselves, but in terms of their development). The main character himself suffered especially. What prompted Mikami, who breathed new life into the characters of Leon Scott Kennedy and Ada Wong and created the most emotional presidential daughter, to choose a robot as a model of a hero is unclear (by the way, he is not alone; the same one came out no better);
  • Some levels, in my opinion, would not hurt to change places. And in general, the game turned out to be very drawn out - when you meet in the second half of the game with the same bosses that you killed in the first (the one that had absolutely no plot), you involuntarily think about either the poverty of the developers’ imagination, or the meagerness of the game’s budget ;
  • The ending more or less clarifies everything, but also leaves the answers to some questions in the shadows. DLC or part two, Mr. Mikami?

In general, it was not possible to surpass his magnus opus, but I doubt that Mikami even had such a task. However, if you have nerves of steel (it’s not the monsters that will scare you, but the game situations themselves will often test your strength) and you don’t care about the development of the characters’ characters and the chaotic presentation of the plot at the level of a porn film, then it’s definitely worth a try.
